Arab Filly Illustration

~ Arab Filly in Graphite ~

The weather the last few days have been rather mild for a January in northern Minnesota
with temperatures reaching into the low to mid 30's.
Weather that has been tempting me to spend a much longer time than usual outdoors.

But, I am trying to discipline myself at least a little to sit at the drawing table and create.
So despite warm temps, yesterday evening this little ACEO graphite drawing appeared.
"Arab Filly in Graphite" is the newest illustration off the drawing table.

ACEO Illustration

~ Egyptian Stallion ~

Before I had to put the pencils aside to attend an opening reception for the Duluth Art Institute's member's show where one of my art pieces was being exhibited, I was able to finish one more graphite drawing.

"Egyptian Stallion" is a redesigned drawing from a much larger India Ink line illustration I had completed in the '80's. This little drawing may be quite a bit smaller but still contains a bit of the fine details I love to include in my work.

What's next on the drawing table? Hmmmmm :0)

Finger Puppets

~ White Arabian Finger Puppet ~

~ Grey Arabian Finger Puppet ~

Creating my version of a horse finger puppet had been tossing around in my head for some time.
So...after the hussle and bussle of the Holidays passed, I decided it was time to cut and sew.
What appeared were these white and grey Arabians.
The grey's body was cut of heavy weight synthetic felt I had purchased many years ago.
The white's body was cut from beautiful wool felt.
Their eyes and nostrils I sewed in freehand, then stitched on their ears, and carefully sewed up the body with needle and thread, leaving a finger hole at the base of each.

I finished both by hand sewing in their mane and forelock of pure wool yarn, then untwisted and combed them out with a needle.

What a relaxing project these two were, and they now appear in my shop. I may need to try a few more in black, bay...
maybe even a Friesian or a Fjord horse?

~ 'THE CHRISTMAS ARAB' ~

~ 'THE CHRISTMAS ARAB II' ~
"Children's Wishes"

~~~~~***~~~~~
With Christmas not far away, I thought it would be wonderful to add a Christmas card to my shop for those who dreamt, still dream, or know someone who's wishing to find that special pony/or horse with a beautiful red bow in it's mane waiting for them on Christmas morning.
The illustration for 'THE CHRISTMAS ARAB II' created in 1991 is of a little snow white Arabian, carefully clinging onto a pajama topped teddy bear, for someone who's dreams are filled with wishes.
Each beautiful card was professionally printed with my black and white illustration on creamy white textured medium weight card stock. I then hand color and remark, enhance with 18kt. gold, edge with punched flourishes, add beautiful light blue parchment to the inside, and embelish each card with a small crystal.
Each creamy white 5"x7" hand colored and embelished card is accompanied with a medium weight, snowy white, gold foil lined envelope. Merry Christmas is printed on the front of the card, and blank on the inside for you to write your own special holiday message.
~* Wishing you a safe and magically wonderful Holiday season ! *~
Reflection of Youth
~ Reflection of Youth ~
A new bookmark design has been added to those available in my Etsy shoppe DeLaRenaissance.
'Reflection of Youth', created in December of 2006, was inspired by my photo of a beautiful tiny Arab foal born with us many years ago. Her innocence and curiousity in the world around her were woven into the image of a baby Pegasus viewing herself for the very first time in a clear blue pool rimmed in flowers.
Even though the little chestnut Arab foal grew up and became a beautiful mare, she still lives in my art as an inquisitive little white foal with wings.
Arab in Umber
It was good to work at the art table again after finally coaxing myself out of many months of creative hibernation. The pencils were layed out, glass drawing surface was cleaned, art lights were switched on, and the piece that appeared was 'Arab in Umber', a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" ACEO created with watercolor wash and Prismacolor Pencil.
This original is now available in my Etsy delarenaissance shop ~
