Where the Buffalo Roam

Buffalo Herd

The Yearling

These wonderful creatures live not more than a mile from our home. Within a few short weeks brand new light red fuzzy calves will be seen trotting by their mother's side, tussling in mock battles, or curled up for a baby slumber.

  1. my goodness Dale Ann - what an absolute privilege to have them so near! they are so handsome and with a backdrop of white trunk trees (are they aspen?) - such a serene view!
I can just hear them munching on the grass! It will be delightful to see the calves too!

  3. The trees in the forest behind are a mix of aspen and birch, with a beautiful spattering of maple.

I would have loved to add the unusual sounds we hear these creatures make, a low, sometimes muffled, throaty grunt. How amazing it must have been to see the American Plains covered with these beautiful animals so, so many years ago...

The animals in the images above are part of a herd of over 50 (before the calves are born).

I am so glad you stopped by my blog, somehow I "lost" yours on my list! You are back on and I have much reading to catch up on.
