" My New Equine Buddy "Bell" ~

It has been a few years since a horse has graced our pastures.
But just last week delightful equine sounds were heard once more!
"Bell", a  beautiful dun, registered paint mare has joined our family,

Arab Filly Illustration

~ Arab Filly in Graphite ~

The weather the last few days have been rather mild for a January in northern Minnesota
with temperatures reaching into the low to mid 30's.
Weather that has been tempting me to spend a much longer time than usual outdoors.

But, I am trying to discipline myself at least a little to sit at the drawing table and create.
So despite warm temps, yesterday evening this little ACEO graphite drawing appeared.
"Arab Filly in Graphite" is the newest illustration off the drawing table.

ACEO Illustration

~ Egyptian Stallion ~

Before I had to put the pencils aside to attend an opening reception for the Duluth Art Institute's member's show where one of my art pieces was being exhibited, I was able to finish one more graphite drawing.

"Egyptian Stallion" is a redesigned drawing from a much larger India Ink line illustration I had completed in the '80's. This little drawing may be quite a bit smaller but still contains a bit of the fine details I love to include in my work.

What's next on the drawing table? Hmmmmm :0)

Dappled Arabian

~ Dappled Arabian ~

Fresh off of the drawing table.

I wonder if other artists have the same issue? I've come to realize if I take a "short" break from creating art, that short break may become quite long!

This sketch had been sitting on paper as a line form drawing for more than two years, waiting to become a color painting. I finally put myself into the chair at the drawing table to take a break from my "break", and work on some graphite aceo's (2 1/2" x 3 1/2" art cards, editions, and originals). To limber up I decided to work on this little piece in graphite first.

There are times I have a very clear picture of what the art will look as when complete, then there are times I let the piece create itself. Other than the line form that lay dormant for over two years, "Dappled Arabian" was the art that created itself.

Whoa Sketchbook Project Now On Auction

The wonderful Whoa Sketchbook Project began its life by Jennifer MacNeill-Traylor of Gypsy Mare Studios and has traveled across the ocean and back to include amazing sketches and full color original art and prints from over 13 artists of the Whoa Horse Artists Group which began on Ebay and has now included Etsy (Whoa Horse Artists Group).

The sketchbook project was created to raise money to help a horse charity chosen by the artists. To view the auction which began August 10th and runs until August 20th, click here.

I would love to include in this post many of the images of the gorgeous art available in this one of a kind book, however I am not the best at grabbing outside images. You can however view most of them by clicking here (please be sure to click 'older posts' at the bottom of the page to view more art). I have included an image of the print 'Golden Pegasus, Winged Horse of Love and Hope' I have donated to be included in this sketchbook auction. This is the first time this print has been released larger than ACEO 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" size.

For any who love the equine, this beautiful one of a kind sketchbook containing over 50 pieces of art would be a treasure to own!

Reflection of Youth

~ Reflection of Youth ~

A new bookmark design has been added to those available in my Etsy shoppe DeLaRenaissance.

'Reflection of Youth', created in December of 2006, was inspired by my photo of a beautiful tiny Arab foal born with us many years ago. Her innocence and curiousity in the world around her were woven into the image of a baby Pegasus viewing herself for the very first time in a clear blue pool rimmed in flowers.

Even though the little chestnut Arab foal grew up and became a beautiful mare, she still lives in my art as an inquisitive little white foal with wings.

Nature's Beauty

Portal to the Equine Soul

Autumnal Sunset

The gentle eye of the horse, where one can almost see into its very soul. The blazing colors of a gorgeous autumn sunset, skies painted for us as the world slumbers.

Nature's beauty surrounds us all.

Autumnal Sunset was the wonderful setting sun we viewed this evening. The image captured the colors perfectly with absolute no enhancement.

Arab in Umber

It was good to work at the art table again after finally coaxing myself out of many months of creative hibernation. The pencils were layed out, glass drawing surface was cleaned, art lights were switched on, and the piece that appeared was 'Arab in Umber', a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" ACEO created with watercolor wash and Prismacolor Pencil.
This original is now available in my Etsy delarenaissance shop ~
