" Blue Eyed Pinto " ~

 ~ Blue Eyed Pinto ~

When I decided to draw this 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" ACEO illustration "Blue Eyed Pinto" I realized
it has been over 40 years since the last time I had created a horse with plenty of "chrome".
Even then, there were not many.

I can think of only two others, both when I was in my earlier teens.
The first was an oil painting of a Native American Paint Horse pulling a travois across the plains,
the second was of a beautiful chestnut and white pinto rendered in oil pastel on velour paper.

I'm not sure why most of my art has gravitated to the solid colored equines with white only appearing on their faces or feet.
Hmmmmmmm...these paints and pintos are rare indeed!

New ACEOs for August

Last Fall I worked on two 1 1/2" round wooden jewelry pendants, both images created with Prismacolor pencils.

Last week I decided it would be fun to enlarge them into ACEO (2 1/2" x 3 1/2") size. Both have been created on Bristol 100 lb acid free paper and colored with Prismacolor pencil, graphite pencil, and " Star Gazing on Bunny Hill " also contains some Golden acrylics.

~ Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor ~

Oh my! It has been a VERY long time since I've last posted! But...even though it has been quiet on the 'Chronicles of Whimsy' site, we have not been idle.

During the summer it was decided that DH's blacksmith shop was beyond needing a facelift. So down came the old, and a new shop was designed and is being constructed.

We also took some time during last summer to venture out with art and craft, setting up a booth at three shows to display both ironwork and art. DH and I truly enjoy one on one interaction with customers as we display our newest creations.

I haven't been as productive with my art as in years past, but I have enjoyed creating a few new projects.

~ Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor ~

"Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor" is the the latest piece that has come off the drawing table. In ACEO
2 1/2" x 3 1/2" size. this illustration was done with both graphite and colored pencil on Bristol paper.

~ Unicorn Foal in Graphite and Prismacolor ~

"Unicorn Foal" was created a few months back. Not a piece that was in full color, but some was added to bring me back into color creating mode. This illustration was also created in ACEO size.

While working on the line drawing for "Pegasus Stallion in Prismacolor" I began work on 4 other designs. I hope to get back to the table again soon, but to pick which design to complete...hmmmmm.

ACEO Illustration

~ Egyptian Stallion ~

Before I had to put the pencils aside to attend an opening reception for the Duluth Art Institute's member's show where one of my art pieces was being exhibited, I was able to finish one more graphite drawing.

"Egyptian Stallion" is a redesigned drawing from a much larger India Ink line illustration I had completed in the '80's. This little drawing may be quite a bit smaller but still contains a bit of the fine details I love to include in my work.

What's next on the drawing table? Hmmmmm :0)

Birthday giveaway winner is...

Wow, it is amazing how quickly birthdays do fly by! I have had many over the years, some memorable and some not. This year was exceptionally wonderful because I was able to celebrate it with you!

I felt your presence and could hear your kind birthday wishes throughout the weekend, and am so happy to have you drop by! Thank you ever so much!

What did I do for my birthday you ask? The weather was beautiful, with clear blue skies, warm 38 degrees (for February, in northern Minnesota), the snow melting, and the first of new Spring calls were beginning from the crows and a local Pileated woodpecker.:0) After being treated to a light hearted movie and delicious lunch, my husband, daughter, grandchildren and I spent time in a store surounded by books. Upon leaving, I was happily clutching a much needed dictionary to replace the well worn book that had separated from years of use into 5 pieces, and a new herbal addition for my bulging library. Ending with a little more family time, it was proclaimed a very good day!

And now it is time for me to present one of you with a gift. So, please feel free to help yourself to a heavenly piece of double chocolate cake with chocolate chips hidden inside, and a warm cup of (fresh picked) mint tea as I drop blue slips containing the number for each entry into an antique copper bowl. Stirring and folding with tightly shut eyes, I draw the winning number! Number...10!

The amazing 2010 blog event One World One Heart has finally come to a close. The magic carpets that criss crossed the skies are slowly gliding back to earth. Many have returned with treasures, memories, and new friendships from near and far.

Before I announce them, I wish to thank each and every one of you who flew in for a visit and left wonderful compliments and comments and / or became Whimsy followers! I hope to see you all back again soon!

Arab in Umber

It was good to work at the art table again after finally coaxing myself out of many months of creative hibernation. The pencils were layed out, glass drawing surface was cleaned, art lights were switched on, and the piece that appeared was 'Arab in Umber', a 2 1/2" x 3 1/2" ACEO created with watercolor wash and Prismacolor Pencil.
This original is now available in my Etsy delarenaissance shop ~
